Chic Shopaholic: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I recently shopped at Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale a few weeks ago and bought a few things that are quickly becoming new favorites.

Watches are one of my signature accessories, I always have one on that will coordinate my outfit. I wasn't planning to buy a watch even though I found one at last year's anniversary sale, but I bought an Amy Strap 36mm by Marc Jacobs in the jewelry tent. It has a genuine leather strap in a medium brown color with gold stainless steel face ring and roller buckle. The watch caught my eye because it's a simple, classic and timeless style but different from my other watches. It goes with almost any outfit I'm wearing and stands out without being too much.

I then bought two crop tops that weren't sold under the tents but was on sale.

The first one is a Tildon Super Drop Body-Con Crop Pullover. It's in a cream color with fine ribbed texture and ribbed neckline. It's form-fitting stopping right at the waist with quarter-length sleeves. This is something I can wear for so many occasions, day or night and will be a staple in my wardrobe.

The second crop top is a Leith Print Lace Top. It's a mix of cotton and nylon lace pattern in navy blue and black. I really love this top because it has the perfect blend of trendy edginess and elegance. It has more of a boxy cut, stopping at the waist with quarter-length sleeves. Again, I can see myself wearing this often, particularly at night and during the Autumn/Winter season.

Chic Shopaholic: Summer Forever 21 Favorites

Here's a quick post of what I've been loving from Forever 21 that I've been wearing throughout the Summer.

An easy way to wear bright colors is in a tank top under a sheer top. I've been wearing the teal one on the left and the two that I've bought at Ross with the sheer lace blouse below. The bright color just subtly peeks through the lace and I've probably worn this combination at least once a week last month because it's so comfortable and cooling to wear in the heat.

For cooler night outs, I loved wearing this striped knit sweater. It has wide horizontal stripes of hot pink and cream with thin stripes of peach in between. I really like the pink and peach combinations because it sort of has a pretty coral tone to it that's girly and different from other striped sweaters. The long sleeves keep me warm but the material is still light enough to wear in the Summer, even through the Fall season.

The next two tops are a bit more on the dressier side. It's hard to see in the photo but the red top has a deep V-neck cut on the front that gives a sexier feel to an outfit. I just love the bright red color, it's classic yet vibrant at the same time and you can wear it all year round. You can pair with jeans for a casual look or black pants for a polished look

This black strapless top has a cool, edgy style to it, with its silver zipper running along the front. The textured detail on the top half and the longer train at the back helps soften the look. I would wear this with a black leather jacket and black pants for a slim, streamlined look on a night out.

What are your favorite outfits that you like to wear in the Summer?

High-end Hair Products

Just like makeup products, there are high-end hair brands that you can buy from hair salons. Recently I bought few products that was recommended by my hair stylist.

As a background, I have normal-to-fine hair, not color treated but still damaged from using a lot of heating tools. I also sometimes get flakes on my scalp either from having dry skin or from using so many products. My stylist suggested this shampoo and conditioner, both by Kerastase.
  • Bain Nutri-Thermique: This shampoo is for very dry, sensitized hair, to protect it from constant drying-out process. It also protects hair from heat and nourishes deep inside the hair. It has a creamy lather but doesn't have a heavy feeling.
  • Lait Vital: A lightweight conditioner for normal to slightly dry hair. It's supposed restore moisture, nutrition and shine without weighing down hair. It also a creamy consistency but it's not greasy.
I've been using both products pretty regularly, usually on days when I don't have any hair products in my hair and I need a deep, hydrating wash. I've noticed my hair feels healthy, super smooth, soft and shiny.

My stylist also suggested these two products for styling my hair, again both by Kerastase.
  • Elixir Ultime: A multi-purpose oil that can be used before and after styling on all hair types. Blended with four kinds of oils: Maize Oil, Pracaxi Oil, Camellia Oil and Argan Oil to condition, add shine, strengthen and smooth the hair. There are 4 ways to use it: apply and wash it out before you shampoo to remove impurities, apply on towel-dried hair before blow drying for protection, as a finishing styling product to smooth frizz, and apply throughout the day as needed to add shine.  I've used other hair oils before but really like this one out of the others because it really tames the fly-aways and makes my hair look and feel healthy. The texture has a nice slip to it but doesn't feel super oily and it has a nutty-oil scent but it's not unpleasant. I mainly use this post styling since I use a different product to protect my hair while blow drying. I bought the 50 mL to first try it out and it lasts for a long time since you only need just a couple of pumps, plus it's great for travel.
  • Spray Volumactive: A spray that adds body and fullness to fine hair. With fine hair, having it looking flat is the last thing I want so I'm always looking products to give it volume. I spray on damp hair, from roots to ends, then blow dry using a round brush. The nozzle sprays evenly throughout my hair and feels lightweight. I do notice my hair has more movement and feels slightly thicker.

This last product I heard about was from Lisasz09, when she did a review on Platinum Blow-Dry Spray by KENRA and I bought it from Trade Secret. I love KENRA products, I've repurchased their hairsprays many times. This spray is supposed to decrease blow-dry time, eliminates frizz, resists humidity and protects from breakage and heat damage up to 428˚. It's infused with Argan Oil and Jojoba Oil to soften the hair, as well as evaporating silicones that helps the hair dry faster. Even though I have normal-to-fine hair, I have a lot of it and it takes forever to dry. I spray this all over my hair after applying other styling products I'm using, then blow dry. It really cuts drying time by half  and makes my hair feel silky. This has become one of my must have products in my routine. I use this in place of the Kerastase Elixir Ultime since it protects the hair while quickening drying time.

I've used drugstore hair products but there's something about salon quality that feels more luxurious, especially with shampoos and conditioners, and performs as it claims. Of course, there are always not so great high-end hair products but I really like the ones I've tried here. What are your favorite products brought from the salon? Do you notice the difference between what's sold at the drugstore?
