Chic Shopaholic: Bags, bags and more bags

Can't believe 6 months have passed already, how time flies! Somehow I was able to buy 6 bags during that  time. That's 1 bag per months - oops! Anyhow, thought I'd share the bags I've bought, all of them with different styles for different occasions.

The first bag is a Mini Barrel Satchel by Steve Madden. I found it at Ross and they actually had quite a few of these in different colors and prints. This one is black with gold polka-dots and a tiny heart mirror hanging outside. It's a chic and goes with everything kind of bag and the perfect size for me, yet at the same time I can fit a few things in it.

I love my red lip bag that I bought at ALDO and when they had a hot pink one, I had to have it. I love anything with kiss prints on it and the fact that it's a bag shaped like it, it's the perfect statement accessory. This can be worn with a simple, neutral color outfit to make the bag more wearable or you could go for a color blocking theme and wear it with other bright colors. The detachable chain shoulder/crossbody bag can also be carried as a wristlet with the strap or just as a clutch.

I also bought the next 3 bags at ALDO on a different shopping trip, two of them which were on sale.

A metallic gold clutch with ruching detail and a gold ring to slip your wrist through or be held by your hands. It can fit a few essentials for a night out to a nice dinner or a party.

This white clutch has a wide wristlet attached with gold studded accents that make it almost look like a bracelet. It's a great Summer bag and just adds a cool accessory to an outfit.

Finally, a black envelope style clutch, also with a gold metal wristlet attached. It has a rocker feel to it but it's still sophisticated for a night out.

The last bag I bought was also by Steve Madden, it is the Arris Mini Convertible Satchel. It was on sale at Nordstrom and the color instantly caught my eye, a bright red-coral with black detail. It has a long chain strap that can be worn over the shoulder or across the body and two handles. I actually cut the chains off since they're too long for me and just used the handles. I've gotten a lot of compliments carrying it around and it's just a great everyday bag.

So those are my new bags! I love all of them because they're proper bags unlike the small wristlets that I've been using for some time. What is your favorite everyday bag and evening bag to carry?

Chic Shopaholic: Sephora Chic Week 15% Off

Sephora had their Chic Week 15% off for the Spring/Summer for B.Is and V.I.Bs so I bought some new products to update my makeup, skincare, and even body care for the season.
  • Hourglass Ethereal Light Ambient Lighting Powder: This product was all over beauty blogs and YouTube videos when this came out. It's a pressed finishing powder that come in 6 shades, varying by the different lighting effects. Ethereal Light is described as opalescent sheer, cool white powder which is pretty accurate. It's sheer but buildable with a matte finish and velvety smooth texture that is supposed to mimic a moonlit glow. At first, I wasn't so impressed by this product as I bought it to brighten under my eye area but I didn't really notice anything different. The best technique that worked for me though is to apply directly on top of my undereye concealer instead of over another setting powder,  to really show the moonlight effect. It really does highlight the area without looking ashy and sets my concealer nicely without looking too powdery and showing fine lines. I stick to just applying it under my eyes, along my cheekbones and maybe just a touch on the bridge of my nose. If I apply anywhere else, it makes my skin look too white. To apply, I use the flat side of a powder brush like the Real Technique Multi Task Brush, and press the powder onto the skin as opposed to sweeping or buffing it in. I think these powders can give you whatever lighting effect you're looking for and looks great in photos. This is probably a luxury product for most people especially with the hefty price tag but since I've used it, I can't leave it out of my routine. If you want to learn about the other shades, I suggest you watch JoshCollierMUA's video.
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills  should be everyone's go to brand for brows. Since colors are generally lighter and softer during Spring/Summer, I thought I would go that route for my brows as well.
    • Medium Brown Brow Powder Duo: Light-medium muted taupe on the left and a darker ash brown on the right. This is a good universal color, it can fit to almost any hair color from dirty blondes, browns, and even my black hair. It's dark enough to add definition but still soft enough to not overwhelm your makeup look. It has a smooth texture, great pigment  and lasts all day. As you can see in the photo, the packaging has changed and is now in a sleek black compact with a rose gold design on the the front.
    • Camille/Sand Brow Duality: A double-ended jumbo pencil to highlight the brows for a defined look in a natural way. Camille is a matte light pink-beige, Sand is shimmery light pink-y champagne. Depending on the look you want, you could either go for a matte brow highlight or a shimmer brow highlight. You could even use the shimmery side to highlight the inner corner. To apply, just run the side of the pencil underneath your brow on your brow-bone then blend in with a brush or your fingers. The texture is creamy I probably wouldn't repurchase this again because although this is the lightest of the two shades it comes in, it's a little too pink for me but I do like it for a quick and easy highlighted brows. This has been repackaged but I wasn't able to get the new design when I ordered it online.

  • LORAC Behind the Scenes Eye Primer: After trying this product that was included a mini version of it with the PRO Palette and really liking it, I bought the full size to keep at home for everyday use. Just as I mentioned in my other review, it's  free of oil, fragrance and parabens and has a thin, creamy consistency. The sheer pale beige color helps neutralize discoloration on the eyes but is basically transparent on the skin once blended in and doesn't alter the eyeshadows you use over it. It works like any other eye primer in that it prevents shadows and liners from creasing, fading and helps wear true to color but the reason I like this one a lot over other primers is the consistency. It feels more moisturizing which I like because my skin is generally on the drier side. It applies my shadows smoothly with no uneven patchiness and holds my eye makeup all day.
  • Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: Makeup tends melt off during the warm Summer months so using a setting can really help. Like all UD sprays, they are made from the same brand, Skindinavia.  UD have also recently repackaged their setting sprays, clean white bottles with solid colored caps to differentiate between the types of sprays. All Nighter has Temperature Control Technology to lower the temperature of your makeup to keep everything in place. It's supposed to last for up to 16 hours, even in hot and humid months or cold winter seasons, without melting, fading or settling into fine lines. It distributes a fine mist that doesn't leave a sticky residue. To use, I shake the bottle, spray 4-5 times all over the face with my eyes and mouth closed, then let the spray dry without touching my face and not making facial expressions so it doesn't leave any spray marks. My blush is usually the first thing to fade and look blotchy because of my skin absorbing the product, but the spray really helps in sustaining the wear on my skin. I first just bought the 1 oz bottle to test it out and really liked it so I bought the full size 4 oz bottle as well. The mini bottle can be used for travel and the bigger bottle can be kept at home as well as to refill the small bottle.
  • Korres Milk Proteins 3 in 1 Cleansing, Toning and Eye Make-up Removing Emulsion: Not a lot of brands make milk cleansers so when I discovered this product by Korres, I had to give it a try. I like milk cleansers because they can easily be wiped away with tissue which is my method of cleansing because I can't go to the sink to wash it off with water. It's a light, creamy-lotion with oils and milk proteins, which has lactose and essential amino acids, to hydrate the skin while removing eye and face makeup and cleaning impurities. I apply a quarter size amount and massage all over my face, including my eyes but keeping them closed. It removes face makeup pretty well but I like to use a double-phase eye makeup remover beforehand to remove stubborn products first. It leaves your skin feeling moisturized but not greasy. Even though it says it tones, I still follow up with a regular toner to remove traces of residue. This is a nice natural, gentle cleanser for everyday.
  • Murad Acne Spot Treatment: I recently finished my Soap & Glory Dr. Spot Invisible Spot-Fighting Gel and like always, I wanted to try something new. This product is sulfur-based that reduces blemishes and heals them quickly. It has zinc to reduce irritation, licorice root extract to calm flamed areas, as well as AHAs and BHAs to exfoliate and keep skin clear. It has a yellow-cream color but dries clear once rubbed in. I actually noticed that it was working in clearing up my blemishes in just after a few days. It's also not overly drying and doesn't leave my skin flaky, but I always moisturize over it to keep my skin hydrated. I think this product does what claims and I would repurchase this again.

  • Soap & Glory Pulp Friction Foamy Fruity Body Scrub: A clay-based body scrub that has pumice, fig seed powder, peppermint oil, lemonade tree liquid and vitaminballs A, C and E. It's also scented with their Fruitigo fragrance which contains fig, frozen yuzu, sweet orange oil and pomelo essence. It has a refreshing minty-fruity scent  and wakes up your body. Because it's a clay formula, the texture is a bit thick and gritty but it's not harsh on the skin. The pumice and fig seed powder can leave remnants on the body so I make sure to wash it off really well. My skin feels smooth, clean and is a great body scrub for the Summer.
  • Sephora Nail Art Set: I've been getting into d.i.y nail art but needed the tools to do so, so I bought this set just for the time being until I get a proper tools. It contains a double-ended marbling and dotting tool and a paint brush. The dotting tool is slightly different in size but you can barely tell. The paint brush is very fine, like an eyeliner brush. I wish it was a little longer so I can create longer, even lines instead of having to re-dip back into the polish. The tools might not be the best quality but they get the job done.

Beauty Budget: Clothes at Ross & Walmart

I love getting clothes at a bargain, especially when shopping for on-trend styles or basic pieces that I can wear with other outfits. Here are some things that I bought over the past couple of months.

Ross is one of my favorites stores to get department store prices at a discount. I've been looking for bright, plain tank tops to layer under sheer tops. I bought these two tank-tops, one in a red-coral shade and the other in a hot-pink shade. Both are great for the Summer to add a splash of color to your outfit.

Then I bought a bunch of printed tops, the first two in button-up styles. The one on the left is a navy blue with orange and white hearts. The sleeves are long but I like folding them up to around my elbows for a more flattering look. It's also knotted at the front which helps accentuate the waistline. Then the shirt on the right is a deep forest green with black, brown and white plaid print. It's not something I would usually wear but I like it for a more casual look. Both shirts can be paired with jeans or black leggings.

I got two printed blouses, the first one is a sheer pale yellow-cream with cute owls all over. It has a sewn-in tank top underneath for coverage and a black "Peter Pan" collar that gives the top a whimsical look. The second top is a sleeveless sheer button-up with red kisses all over. It's also knotted at the front which gives it a girly and flirty look.

Finally I bought two one piece, the first one is a light beige romper with small black hearts. Again, girly and sweet, I like the pockets and the knot detail at the top.

I'm not usually a fan of leopard print dresses, they usually look tacky and cheap. But this strapless dress I got has nice sized spots with a flattering color and cut. It's kind of a sassy, sexy dress but can still look classy depending on how you accessorize it.

I've never really shopped at Walmart for clothes but the past couple of times I've went, I bought some cute clothes.

I bought this grey peplum top with neon yellow hearts. I like that it's a neutral colored top but the subtle yellow peaking through has just enough color that's perfect for the Summer.

I've been wanting printed pants but could never find the right one because the length is usually too long for me but I found one in a capri cut that fits perfectly - and it has kiss prints all over! The lips are in red, hot pink, light pink and white over black tights. With printed bottoms, I usually like to keep it low-key on the top  by sticking with neutral colors. If you want to go a little more colorful, you can compliment it by matching one of the colors in your pants.

Chic Shopaholic: Spring/Summer Fashion

Spring/Summer is the perfect time to have fun with your fashion. You can experiment with color and wear softer colors like white, cream and gold. Here are a few pieces I bought a few months ago to wear for the season.

At Basique Threads, I bought this mint peplum strapless top. It has metallic gold detail over it which adds a little sparkle to an outfit. You can pair this with white jeans or leggings for that perfect Spring day look, then throw on a blazer for an instant chic evening look.

Then on Boohoo.com, I did a mini haul when they had a sale. Crop tops are majorly in for Summer, it keeps you cool while showing some skin. I bought them in a bright color and with a printed design. The coral crop top is the ideal Spring/Summer shade, it's bright and just has a freshness to your wardrobe. The houndstooth printed crop top makes it a rocker look, especially paired with  black leather. Either crop top can be worn with high-waisted skirts or pants, or if you're feeling more daring, you can show off your midriff.

Finally, I bought a few things from Forever 21. I bought two casual/day dresses in the same style, just in the different colors. One is in blue, pink, mint, cream and white and the other is in peach, yellow, light blue, tan and white. The stripes vary in thickness which makes it flattering to wear. I love having these no-fuss dresses for everyday wear, the colors still being fun and colorful.

I bought another peplum top, this one in a pale gold-cream color with a hint of gold sparkle to highlight the detail with sheerer lace at the sleeves. This top is more on the dressier side but could carry on through the rest of the seasons to make a well worn piece in your wardrobe.

Lastly, nothing says Summer like the color white. This white faux leather jacket has gold studs on the shoulders, a nice detail to show off when your hair is up. It's simple, yet chic to wear with almost any Summer style.
