Chic Shopaholic: Jouer Battle of the Coasts 20% Off

Back in August, Jouer had a Battle of the Coast contest where you voted for which Moisturizing Lip Gloss should be the new shade; Malibu, a sheer fuchsia, or Hamptons, a sheer tangerine  They offered 40% off to the winning color, which was Malibu and the one I voted for, as well as offering 20% off just for voting.

Although Malibu is a pretty color, I didn't buy it but took up on the 20% deal, wanting to add to my already growing collection. I love their system of slide or snap compacts, keeping everything in one place at home or being able to customize your own palette for on-the-go ease.

First, a few face products to try:
  • Essential Matte Touch: A mattifier that can be worn  under makeup or by itself to absorb excess oil. It has Willow Bark Extract to purify the skin, antioxidants to calm  the skin and Vitamins C, D and E to firm and moisturize. Using it alone or under your makeup as a primer will help keep the oils coming through. You can also use it to blot shine  instead of using powder, which can sometimes look cake-y on the skin. Even though I have normal-dry skin, living in a humid, tropical environment, I still use it because my skin can get a little shiny throughout the day. To apply, I rub my fingers over it which has a dry, waxy texture and a translucent color, then smooth onto my skin.
  • no. 2 Creme Age Repairing Perfector: A mineral cream foundation that fights and repairs the skin's sign of aging and stress. It contains Dermaxyl Complex, antioxidants,Vitamin E, Arnica Oil and Japanese Tea Extract to revive skin's firmness and tone. It has light-to-medium buildable coverage, with a smooth slippery texture that glides onto the skin easily and feels weightless. It says it's suitable for all skin types but I think people with extreme oily skin may find it a little greasy and may want to use the Essential Matte Touch or some other mattifying primer. I was debating with shades no. 1 and 2 as I thought 1 would be too light. 2 is a touch too dark but I'm able to blend it in and it would probably match better in the Summer. To apply, I either use my Sephora #56 Pro brush but fingers works just fine.
  • no. 1 Porcelain Age-Repairing Concealer: A medium-to-full coverage concealer. It has Dermaxyl Complex like the Perfector, as well as Brazilian botanicals and Vitamn A to reduce the signs of aging and stress. You can use under your eyes or anywhere on the face to cover blemishes, spots and redness. It has a dry-creamy consistency but is easy to blend and doesn't accentuate flakes.

Then, some new colors for the eyes:
  • Powder Eyeshadows: I've become a fan of Jouer's Powder Eyeshadows as they're soft but not flaky, nicely pigmented and blend effortlessly. Their colors are wearable, having matte and pearly shimmer finishes. You can use them with a damp brush to apply as a liner. The shades I bought were:
    • Sugar: white with gold shimmer
    • Meringue: satin light pink-beige
    • Almond: matte medium beige-brown
    • Toffee: pearly shimmer medium golden brown

Finally, a couple of non-palette products:
  • Mink Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner: A shimmery golden taupe, a water-based liquid eyeliner infused with Vitamins A and E. I thought it was unique that they made their liquid  liners in soft shimmery tones. Mink just has enough color to define, while the shimmer softens it  and reflects light to open up the eyes. The consistency and pigmentation has the right balance to deposit color and apply fluidly. Once it dries, it doesn't flake off or fade. With the small narrow brush, you're able to apply the liner thinly close the the lash line and wing it out at the corners.
  • Sarah Hydrating Lipstick: A medium cranberry red. Their lipsticks contain Brazil's Cupuacu Butter to hydrate, nourish and protect the lips. It has medium-full coverage with a semi-matte finish that still makes the lips look healthy and moisturized.

Obviously, I am a fan of Jouer and hope they expand the line with new products and colors. Which Moisturizing Lip Gloss would you have voted for? What are your favorite Jouer products?

Chic Shopaholic: Boutique Shopping

Small boutiques can be fun to shop from because you can find unique things that mass-produced malls wouldn't have. I went to Waikiki with my family over Thanksgiving week and found some cute fashion accessories.

Genius Outfitters is an eclectic boho-casual style store, where I found a brown leather wristlet bag. It has gold studs at the front flap and on the strap. There are pockets at the back and in the khaki-colored interior. It's hard to find a nice brown purse, especially in a small wristlet size. Brown is great to soften and warm-up an outfit, the gold detail adding a touch of glam.

Then at Mahina, a Maui based store that recently opened in Oahu and has island inspired fashion, is where I bought two jewelry pieces.

The first one is a small bow ring in a pearly white color with a rhinestone in the middle and a gold band. I really liked the color of the bow and the simplicity of the style, kind of girly and dainty.

The second piece is a bright blue bracelet with lucky charms on it. I mainly wanted it for the wishbone because I love them, but the other charms are: a palm-reading hand, a rhinestoned horseshoe, a blue Egyptian eye and an elephant. The gold charms compliment the blue beading really well and it's a fun piece to layer with other bracelets and watches.

What are your favorite boutiques to shop at and what kind of things do you like to shop for?

Today's Client: Hikari Gets Wicked

My friend Hikari and I went to see the Broadway show Wicked and she asked me to do her makeup. She wanted to experiment with color and go for a glam look using Wicked theme colors so I did a cut-crease green, beige and gold eyes, bronzed cheeks and glossy red lips. We both really enjoyed the show and she was happy getting dolled up for a night out.

M.A.C Guilty Passions Holiday Twist Look

It's almost the end of 2012 already and to finish it off, I did a colorful holiday look. It's teal-green eyes paired with a metallic purple lip, using products from the M.A.C Guilty Passions Collection.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Chic Shopaholic: JewelMint Pink for October

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and on JewelMint.com, 100% of the profits went towards The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

To do my part in supporting the cause, I bought the Modern Love Bracelets set. I've been wanting to get friendship bracelets and really liked the colors in this set. Each bracelet symbolizes a different meaning: red = devotion, blush = passion and magenta = dedication. The wax thread material has a different colored link detail and extender: red with bronze, blush with rose gold and magenta with gold. You can wear all three together for a colorful accessory on your wrist, wear one at a time for a subtle pop of color, or give one to close friends to share as a friendship bracelet.

Have you bought any beauty products or fashion accessories to support breast cancer awareness?

Chic Shopaholic: M.A.C Guilty Passions: Holiday Mini Kits Collection

The holiday season is when all the makeup brands bring out limited edition kits and sets and M.A.C is no different this year. Their collections are so extensive, covering everything from palettes to brush sets but this year I just bought the Crushed Metallic Pigments from the Guilty Passions: Holiday Mini Kits. They come in cute round mint colored boxes with chevron designs printed on the sides, a "cushion" lid and topped with a black bow. Each kit comes with four pigments that can be stacked or kept individually like how it's packaged in the box.

Crushed Metallic Pigments are loose powders that are essentially used as eyeshadows but can be used anywhere else on the face and body. Depending on the color, the finish can be more metallic, almost having glittery chunks in it. They can also vary in pigmentation but can be intensified  when applied with a damp brush. They can be a little messy to work with since they are a loose product but using small amounts at a time and having the powder worked into the brushes, will help lessen the fallout.

All sets are limited edition.
  • 4 Tenderly Warm:
    • Darling Coquette: frosty pale pink-y beige
    • Silk Stocking: metallic pale golden beige
    • Rose Light: shimmery light pink
    • Ever Elegant: shimmery dark copper brown

  • 4 Sweetly Smokey:
    • Maribu: frosty pale lilac pink
    • Femininity: metallic medium fuchsia with purple shimmer
    • Prettified: metallic medium plum brown
    • Dusty Desire: shimmery dark cool blue-purple

  • 4 Brilliantly Cool:
    • She's Got Class: metallic silver white
    • Moss Garden: metallic pale silver-grey green
    • Spruced: shimmery teal-emerald green
    • I've Got a Crush on You: metallic red-brown with a green-teal duochrome

I really like the kits this year, the four colors work in each set but with the others as well. The shades are perfect for the holidays but can still be worn through all seasons. What are your thoughts on this years M.A.C holiday collections?

24th Birthday Gifts

For my 24th birthday this year, I got a mix of fashion and beauty products as gifts.

Although I don't color my hair, it's still a little damaged at the ends from heating tools that I use. I've never tried TIGI shampoos and conditioners but my mom found TIGI Catwalk Headshot Heavenly Hydrating Shampoo at Ross. It has rose hip oil and ginseng extracts to replenish moisture and shine. It has a floral-minty scent to it and leaves my hair feeling soft without weighing down my hair. I believe this size is for salons because the consumer size comes in a small tube.

My mom also got me some clothes, the first one is a red tunic dress also from Ross. It has black hearts with a wide black belt and it would pair perfectly with black leggings for a cute girly outfit.

She also got me two things from GUESS. The first piece is a medium wash denim jacket. The sleeves are long with crease marks for a more worn out look. It's a true jean jacket that is a great staple piece for casual looks.

Then she got me a t-shirt in a deep burgundy shade with the saying, "LIFE IS FASHION IS LIFE". I love v-neck cuts, they are a flattering to elongate your neckline. A t-shirt is a good basic piece for everyday wear but with a colored shirt, it gives the outfit a little bit more pop.

Then I received more t-shirts from my mom's friends, Wes and Patrick, all the way from Paris! Two shirts in black with an Eiffel Tower on one and a cute kitty on the other, and a white shirt with the Eiffel Tower and "Oh la la Paris" on it.

My sister Vicki gave a white studded and rhinestone foldover clutch from EXPRESS. It has a gunmetal chained  shoulder strap that you can detach and just slip your hand through the decorative strap to hold it. It has a cool, edgy style to it that would go well with a leather jacket, rocker look.

She also got me a NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream which is a product that I've heard about and wanted to try. Addis Ababa is a bright fuchsia in a creamy finish with medium-to-full coverage. The formula is supposed to be like a liquid lipstick that sets on the lips to a matte finish. The texture is smooth and glides on easily with the doe-foot applicator and leaves a light satin finish to the lips. It clams to be moisturizing but it kind of has a waxy texture to it. It also has an odd fruity scent that I'm personally not a fan of. For a drugstore brand, it's not a bad product but I don't think I would try the other colors.

My friend Hikari gave me a little gift, her favorite gloss, Dior Addict Lip Maximizer High Volume Lip Plumper. It comes in one shade, 001 Pink, which is a sheer baby pink. It has collagen and marine-based fillers to smooth and moisturize the lips, and in just 15 days, it's supposed to be noticeably fuller and defined. I haven't used it 15 days straight but when I wear it, it has a minty, tingly feeling to my lips but doesn't have an irritating or burning sensation like some other lip plumpers do. The texture is slightly tacky but smooth to apply with the doe-foot applicator. I don't really notice my lips looking any fuller but it has a pretty shine that can be worn on its own or other lip products.

The last few things, I got for myself:
  • A GLAM PUNK t-shirt from Forever 21.

  • I've always wanted a cocktail ring but many of them tend to be too big in design and fit. I bought this Crystal Cushion Ring by Sorrelli at Nordstrom in the Blue Jean Dream that fit me perfectly. The  bauble stone is in a deep purple-blue color, surrounded by crystals and set on an antique gold finish double woven rope adjustable band. It's the perfect size that it doesn't overwhelm my fingers and hands but is still a sophisticated statement piece.
  • Sephora gives you a free beauty gift for being a Beauty Insider member and this year the gift was Fresh Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Duo. It comes with two Sugar Lip Treatments in small 0.08 oz. sizes compared to their 0.15 oz. full size. It's blended with oils, waxes and real sugar to nourish, protect and plump the lips. The texture is really soft, almost too soft that if you're not careful, the stick can break off in the tube or it could melt if leave it in a warm place. Sugar Rose is a sheer strawberry pink encased in a pale metallic pink tube, and Sugar is colorless encased in a metallic red-brown tube. Both have SPF 15 and they are the perfect sizes to take with you on the go, Rose adding a hint of color to your lips while keeping it moisturized.

I had a really nice quiet birthday this year, not really asking for anything but just spending it with my family and friends. :)

My family and I at Michel's.

Chic Shopaholic: Boohoo.com

I have become a fan of British fashion, Dorothy Perkins being one of my favorites. I found another UK site called Boohoo.com after seeing a commercial for it on TV. There was a 20% off deal going on and this is what I bought:
  • Monique There Was A Girl Top: A mocha colored t-shirt with a leopard heart print and "There Was A Girl" inscription. I like wearing it with a pair of jeans for a casual daytime look. The fabric is really soft and is sort of loose and baggy for a comfy wear.

  • Alicia Face Print Vest: A sleeveless sheer white top that I just had to get because of the lashes and red lips printed on it. It has a punk-rock style to it that would be perfect under a black leather jacket.

  • Emelie Lace Corset Top: A bright royal blue spaghetti strapped corset top. The front is opaque but the back has a sheer lace design. I've worn it with my Ivory Crepe Cropped Tuxedo jacket for a chic, polished evening look.

  • Imogen Metal Structured Bow Headband: A skinny silver headband with a silver bow. I thought it was a cute accessory to add to your hairstyle, especially since bows are everywhere. You can wear it with your hair down or pull it up into a high bun for a cute girly look.

Overall, I think the brand is similar to Forever 21, selling on-trend fashion at affordable prices but made with better quality. I would definitely shop from the site again as they often have special deals and offer free shipping if you spend $25 or more. What are your favorite online shopping sites for fashion?

Chic Shopaholic: Fashion Finds

Along with discovering new beauty products, I've also bought new clothes and accessories.

"Peter Pan" collars are everywhere in fashion and at Forever 21, I bought four  blouses with  them on. The first two are sleeveless in sheer cream and black. Both tops have a beaded neckline in gold and brown tones. They can be worn with a nice blazer over it with dress pants for a  polished evening look or on its own over jeans for a daytime casual look.

The third top is a sheer cream button-up sleeveless, with a sparkly gold sequined Peter Pan collar. The tail on the back is a little longer than the front, which I've also noticed is another trend. Then the last blouse I bought is a beige button-up with black uneven spots. It's actually a crop top but on me, it fits perfectly at my waist. Again, both tops can be worn for a sophisticated night look or a simple day outfit.

Then I had to get this fuchsia pink jacket, also at F21. It has a fabric material with silver zipper detail. It can add a pop of color to a neutral outfit or contrast with blues, orange, or greens for a fun color blocking look.

Two other things I got from F21 were a sweater-dress and a basic shirt. The sweater dress is in a light mint color with small black hearts all over. You can pair with black leggings or jeans for a cute girly outfit.

I've been looking for a plain v-neck shirt in a thin cotton material and after much searching, I finally found one I like. It can be a pain to find basic pieces that you like but are worth it to have in your wardrobe. I've worn this shirt with my bebe leather jacket and jeans for a classic rocker look, but it could also be paired with bright colored pants for more of a subtle color blocking.

A fun accessory I picked up at F21 as well is this knitted taupe hat. It has a bit of sparkle throughout and a flower that you wear to the side. Hats are great to wear in the Fall when it's a little cold out to keep your head warm plus, it's also good for bad hair days.

Sometimes you just want to wear a t-shirt and jeans when doing errands and so I bought this cute red Tokidoki shirt at Nordstrom, which has a metallic silver heart and an X underneath.

I've been in love with Lulu Guinness Lip Clutch and found a knock-off of it at ALDO's called a Red Chevez Bag. There are three ways you can wear it: use the long gold chain as a shoulder bag, attach the strap to wear it as a wristlet, or remove both to carry as a clutch. I love to use as a statement piece to my outfit. I carried the bag on a night out to dinner for my birthday, wearing a sequined strapless dress and studded black leather jacket for a glam-rock look.

Lastly to end my shopping spree, I bought some rings. At Banana Republic, two 5-stacked rings in black-silver and white-silver, and a gold 3-stacked ring with a tiny blue stone on it.

Then at a Japanese store that I've never shopped from before but my sister likes, called Spiral Girl, I bought this spiked set. One is in black and the other rusty silver with dots on the black spikes.

What are your favorite pieces that I've bought? Have you worn any new fashion trends that are going on right now?
